Direction questions describe a walk with turns and distances and ask where the person ends up or how far they are from the start. Drawing it with North at the top removes almost every error. Use it whenever a question chains left and right turns, or asks about the direction a shadow points. For distance from the start, combine the net north-south and east-west movement with Pythagoras rather than adding every step.
