Cloud

Compute, storage, networking and identity on AWS, with what carries over to Azure and GCP.

About Cloud

Cloud computing means renting computing resources (servers, storage, databases, networks) from a provider such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, and paying only for what you use instead of buying hardware.

The course uses AWS for examples and points out the matching services on Azure and GCP, since the ideas carry over.

Why it matters for placements

Almost every company now runs on a cloud. DevOps and cloud roles expect you to know compute, storage, networking and IAM, and certifications are often discussed in interviews.

What you'll learn

5 topics · 15 lessons, each with practice

  • Explain IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and the shared responsibility model
  • Launch and size virtual machines, and choose the right storage
  • Design a basic VPC with public and private subnets
  • Control access securely with IAM users, roles and policies
  • Make an application highly available and keep costs under control

Foundation Foundation

Required. Enough to clear online assessments and service-company interviews.

Cloud Concepts

Not started

Before you can pick a cloud service, you need the words everyone uses: what the provider runs for you, where your servers physically live, and who is to blame when something leaks. These ideas come up in the first five minutes of any cloud interview and in every design discussion at work.

Compute

Not started

Every app needs something to run on, and the cloud gives you three main choices: a virtual machine you manage, a fleet that grows and shrinks on its own, or functions that run only when called. Picking the wrong one costs money or reliability, so you need to know when each one fits.

Recommended. Enough for technical rounds at good product companies.

Storage & Databases

Not started

Apps need somewhere to keep files, disks for their servers, and databases for structured data, and the cloud offers a different service for each. Using the wrong one, like running a database on S3, leads to slow or broken systems, so knowing which storage fits which job is a core cloud skill.

Cloud Networking & IAM

Not started

Every cloud resource sits on a network and is reached by some identity, and getting either wrong is how systems get breached. This topic covers how to lay out a private network, control traffic, and decide who can do what, which is asked in almost every cloud and DevOps interview.

Optional. For top product companies. Never counted against your readiness.

Cost & Architecture

Not started

Knowing the services is not enough; you also have to combine them into systems that stay up and do not waste money. This topic is about designing for failure, keeping the bill under control, and reviewing an architecture with a clear checklist, which is what senior interviewers probe.
