Sometimes the rows you need come from two separate queries, like a combined list of employee and project names. UNION stacks the results of two queries with the same number of columns and removes duplicates, and UNION ALL keeps them. Use UNION ALL when you know there are no duplicates, because it skips the extra work. To combine columns side by side, you need a join, not a union.
