Relational tables struggle with flexible data shapes and with spreading load across many machines. NoSQL databases relax the table model to fix that, and come in four kinds: key-value, document, column-family and graph. Reach for one when the access pattern fits, like Redis for sessions or MongoDB for varied product catalogues. When you need strong consistency, complex joins and multi-row transactions, as in banking, SQL is still the better choice.
