Data you need often lives in two tables, like an employee's name in one and their department name in another. INNER JOIN matches rows from both tables on a key and keeps only the pairs that match. Use it when you want rows that exist on both sides, like employees with a valid department. Rows with no match disappear, so if you must keep them, use a LEFT JOIN.
