Without rules, a table happily accepts duplicate emails, missing names or orders for customers that do not exist. Constraints like PRIMARY KEY, UNIQUE, NOT NULL, CHECK and FOREIGN KEY make the database reject bad data. Add them when designing a table, so mistakes are caught at insert time and not later in reports. Interviews often ask how a primary key differs from a unique key.
