This question usually opens the interview, and a rambling answer sets a weak tone for everything after it. A 60 to 90 second pitch of present, past and future lets you point the interviewer at the two or three things you most want to discuss. Prepare one version per type of role, leading with backend work for a backend role. It is not your life story or a reading of your resume, so leave out hometown, family and school history.
