Copying an object can still leave the copy and the original sharing the same nested objects. A shallow copy copies only the outer object, while a deep copy also copies everything it refers to. Use a deep copy when the copy must change without affecting the original, like editing a draft of a profile with an address inside. A shallow copy is fine, and cheaper, when the nested objects are immutable.
