Splitting expenses sounds like simple arithmetic until rounding, split types and group balances have to add up to exactly zero. Splitwise tests whether you handle money carefully and whether a new split type can be added as one new class. Practise it for any problem involving ledgers, balances or payments. Never store money as double; use whole paise in a long, and treat "simplify debts" as a bonus after the core works.
