Most text problems need the same small toolkit: get a character, take a substring, split on spaces, compare, search. Knowing the built-in String methods saves you from writing these by hand under time pressure. Reach for them in parsing and palindrome or anagram style questions. Compare strings with equals, not ==, and remember that substring(a, b) excludes index b.
