Knowing what an image is does little until you can start, inspect and stop containers from it. docker run, ps, logs and exec are the everyday commands for running a database locally or debugging a service. Use exec to get a shell in a running container, not run, which always creates a new one. Most beginner confusion comes from the host:container port order and containers that exit at once because their main process ended.
