Sometimes you want every user on the new version at once, with a way back in seconds if it fails. Blue-green keeps the old environment running while a second one gets the new version, then flips the router. Use it when instant rollback matters more than the cost of double capacity. If you would rather test on a small share of real users first, a canary fits better, and either way the shared database needs backward-compatible changes.
