The "As Appropriate" (AA) round is the final interview with a senior hiring manager. It's a bar raiser interview to ensure the candidate meets Microsoft's hiring standards.
Microsoft uses numeric levels. Level 59-60 is SDE I (entry), 61-62 is SDE II (mid), 63 is Senior, 64+ is Principal and above. Levels determine scope and compensation.
